Twenty years ago, our CEO and founder, John Knowlton assembled a small group of mortgage professionals and began offering mortgage lending services in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Twenty years later, Inlanta Mortgage continues to thrive, employing more than 200 people in 16 states.

Inlanta Mortgage offers Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac agency products, as well as a full suite of jumbo and portfolio programs. Inlanta Mortgage was founded 20 years ago. Naturally, we have been reflecting on life twenty years ago. Here are some fun facts about 1993 that peaked our interest:

Big Movies of 1993

  • Jurassic Park -  During a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.
  • The Fugitve – Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford), unjustly accused of murdering his wife, must find the real killer while being the target of a nationwide manhunt.
  • The Firm - A young lawyer (Tom Cruise) joins a prestigious law firm only to discover that it has a sinister dark side.
  • Sleepless in Seattle - A recently-widowed man’s (Tom Hanks) son calls a radio talk show in an attempt to find his father a partner.
  • Schindler’s List – In Poland during World War II, Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazis. Schindler’s List went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture in March of 1994.

  • At the 35th Grammy Awards (1993) Eric Claption won six awards including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Performance for his song, “Tears in Heaven“
  • Best New Artist was awarded to Arrested Development.
  • Best Country Vocal Performances (Female and Male) were awarded to Mary Chapin Carpenter for “I Feel Lucky” and Vince Gill for “I Still Believe in You.”

In 2013, many of us at Inlanta Mortgage will be looking back a few years at the events that have shaped and molded our company into what it is today. Why? Inlanta Mortgage is fortunate to be celebrating our 20th Anniversary in 2013.

In 1993, our CEO and founder, John Knowlton assembled a small group of mortgage professionals and began offering mortgage lending services as First Choice Mortgage in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Twenty years later, First Choice Mortgage continues to thrive as Inlanta Mortgage, employing more than 200 people in 15 states.

Our Past Shapes Our Future

What were you doing in 1993? As we approached this momentous year, we began to question what was happening during the year our CEO made the decision to start our company. Who was our nation’s President? What sort of market conditions existed that year? What was the mortgage industry like 20 years ago?
